Ok here are my first impressions of this kit from Games Workshop for their high elf army. Firstly this kit produces two different troop choices (this seems to be their latest production gem, I would guess to save on tooling swaps in the machine shops) . With all the others kits they have made in this duel unit format this one produces the most divergent options I have ever seen. Now what does this mean to you and me? In one short sentence lots of bits for conversions etc.
The figures themselves are crisp and clean evidently the result of their switch away from sculpted masters and towards digital sculpts. The parts are easily assembled and fit very well (a good deal better than some of their other kits in fact) however a word of warning to the unwary painter here, Games Workshop currently advise the complete assembly of figures prior to undercoating and painting (and with some of their recent offerings this seems to be unavoidable, for example dark vengeance or island of blood box set figures) but in this case doing so would cause the obstruction of most of the inside of the cloak and the rear of the legs. My personal advice is to assemble the upper torso separately from the lower limbs and unite the two after painting as a better finish can be achieved this way.
That just leaves the matter of some form of rating system and here's what I've come up with. Each category being out of a possible 10 points
Value for money 6/10
Cost for this kit is £30 The kit only makes 10 figures so is on the quite expensive side per figure. Equating to £3 per figure for plastic its quite steep
Quality of kit 8/10
As mentioned above crisp and detailed also fairly well arranged on the sprue to minimise mould lines and sprue scars.
Ease of building 8/10
Well designed but occasionally a little fiddly for some assembly options.
Extras and options 8/10
Choice of troops is good and posing options exist for both of them the sprue also contains a good number of well detailed and well scaled pouches and ornaments to personalise your figures.
OVERALL RATING 7.5
